What is a PCD saw blade?

Seeing that many people don’t know much about the definition of PCD saw blade, even including practitioners related to PCD saw blade, the definition given by some of them is not accurate enough!

The full Chinese name of PCD saw blade is the abbreviation of “polycrystalline diamond saw blade”, in which PCD is the abbreviation of PolyCrystalline Diamond (translated into Chinese as polycrystalline diamond), so PCD saw blade is also called diamond. Saw blade, but because the diamond saw blade for cutting stone appeared much earlier than the PCD saw blade, Huangrui Tool believes that it is easy to cause confusion to simply call the PCD saw blade as the diamond saw blade. It is not too misunderstood to call it PCD diamond saw blade.
As we all know, diamond is the hardest substance existing in nature. It is a regular octahedral single crystal composed of carbon elements formed in the deep part of the earth under the action of high pressure and high temperature. Strong, all valence electrons are involved in the formation of covalent bonds, no free electrons exist, so the hardness of diamond is very large, the hardness of diamond is 4 times that of corundum and 8 times that of quartz!

Modern technology has long been able to produce synthetic diamond single crystals, and PCD uses cobalt and other metals as binders to polycrystallize synthetic diamond single crystal powders into diamond polycrystals under specific conditions. The hardness of this polycrystalline diamond (ie PCD) is Although it is not as hard as single crystal diamond, the hardness is still as high as 8000HV, which is 80~120 times that of cemented carbide! Moreover, the thermal conductivity series of PCD is 700W/MK, which is 2~9 times that of cemented carbide, and even higher than that of PCBN and copper. Therefore, using PCB material as the saw blade head, the heat transfer speed is extremely fast during cutting. In addition, the coefficient of thermal expansion of PCD material is only one-fifth of that of cemented carbide, and the coefficient of friction is only one-third of that of cemented carbide. These properties determine that the saw blade using PCD material as the cutter head is equivalent to the saw blade body. Under certain conditions, not only the service life of the saw blade is theoretically at least 30 times higher than that of the carbide saw blade, but also the quality of the cutting surface is better. Moreover, the affinity between PCD materials and non-ferrous metals and non-metal materials is small. When cutting non-ferrous metals or non-metal materials, the PCD cutter head on the saw blade is also less likely to bond the sawdust than the carbide cutter head. Finally, there is another advantage: PCD material has strong acid and alkali resistance stability, which is also very beneficial to the quality stability of PCD saw blades.

The PCD saw blade is to use the cemented carbide as the matrix for the PCD material of more than 1mm, form a combination through sintering or other pressing processes, and finally inlay on the alloy steel plate body of the saw blade, so as to replace the hard material with the PCD cutter head. It is the cutting edge of the saw blade, which greatly improves the service life of the saw blade and the stability of the cutting quality.

At present, more and more saw blade users choose to use PCD diamond saw blades with ultra-long service life, which are mainly used in furniture manufacturing industry, non-ferrous metal processing industry that is difficult to cut, and aluminum alloy door and window manufacturers to replace the original carbide knives. The alloy saw blade of the head can not only cut continuously for a long time, but also does not need to replace the saw blade frequently. Longevity, comprehensively, it reduces a lot of cutting costs compared with the use of carbide saw blades!
